So, you’ve decided to climb the Family Tree. Congratulations!

I’ll bet you already have images in your head of Great Aunt Bessie and Ned Kelly. Maybe those rumours were true. Maybe they were an item. Picture that. Possibly it’s one of those things that only history knows. But why not have a chat to a few of the oldies in the family. Oral history can be a rich source of genealogy information – and someone might have been keeping secrets.

And that’s what we need from you; not secrets so much as family knowledge.

Ask if any of them have any papers stuffed away under the wardrobe in the spare room. Photo images, old marriage certificates, divorces, Boy Scout badges, wartime records; ask to see any kind of documents bearing the names of the family members you want to trace. Even pictures can reveal more than you thought. That picture of Grandpa wearing Aunty Vi’s old nurses uniform has to have a story behind it.

And who knows – you might have forgotten some documents of your own that could lead some way along the trail.

Check that the family agrees to let you show their documents to Geni – Genealogist and Dianne can weave them together with the results of her research. You might be amazed at what will be revealed.
